Cateel is a 2nd-class municipality in Davao Oriental, located on Mindanao’s eastern coast. As of the 2020 census, it has about 44,200 residents spread across 16 barangays. It holds the distinction of being the oldest municipality in Mindanao, officially founded on October 29, 1903, and among the first areas reached by the Spaniards.
